What Is Cryotherapy?
The term "cryotherapy" comes from the greek words cryo, meaning “cold” and therapy, meaning “cure.” Ice packs and ice baths have long been used to reduce swelling and inflammation. Now there is a much faster and more effective way to cool damaged tissue, reduce swelling and inflammation, and speed the healing process.
Whole body cryotherapy is a controlled, cold exposure technique using the Juka Cryosauna, a single-person cryogenic chamber, for cellulite reduction, body weight, boost immunity, recovery after exercise, and cosmetic effects. Cryotherapy is also used in rheumatology, orthopedics, burn treatment, as well as pain-alleviating, lowering muscle tension, swellings reduction, and shortening injury recovery time. What To Expect With Cryotherapy
With Whole Body Cryotherapy, the body is exposed to ultra-low temperatures (-200 to -240 F) for a short duration of 90 seconds to 3 minutes, which lowers the skin surface temperature significantly and stimulates receptors. The skin reacts to the cold and sends messages to the brain that acts as a stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. It produces the scanning of all areas that may not be working to their fullest potential. The skin exposure to the extreme temperatures also triggers the release of anti-inflammatory molecules and endorphins.
In the Cryosauna, you are protected with socks, gloves, and slippers. Clothing worn during the treatment is minimal: for women clothing is optional, while for men, genitals have to be covered with cotton underwear. During the 90 seconds to 3 minutes, the average skin temperature drops to 10 °C (50 °F), while the coldest skin temperature can be 0 °C (32 °F). The core body temperature remains unchanged throughout the process; however, it may drop slightly afterwards. Some users say the experience is invigorating and improves a variety of conditions such as psychological stress, insomnia, rheumatism, muscle and joint pain, and various skin conditions.
